Our Story

Oma's Kitchen

Where the recipes in this book come from.

I grew up in Hungary with my mum, Maria, and my Oma. Our home was constantly filled with the smell of something baking in the oven, or the smell of paprika from a pot that was always cooking away on the stovetop. There was never a time when something wasn't simmering, rising or cooling on the bench.

Oma showed her love through food. Every time we came to the table, there was always something cooked and something baked waiting for us. Feeding the people she loved was simply who she was.

Some of my most treasured memories are of sitting around that table together, eating, sharing memories and laughing. The food brought us together, but it was the time around the table that we loved most.

Oma's favourite saying

I learnt my baking skills from my mother, Maria, who is known for her cakes and baking. Everything she taught me in the kitchen is folded into the desserts in this book.

This book is my way of keeping those kitchens alive. I wanted to share these recipes with my own son, my niece and my nephew, who also cherished Oma, so that her love can keep being passed around the table. Now I would like to share them with you too.

With love, from my family's table to yours,Izabela

Dedication

This book is lovingly dedicated to my Mum, Maria, whose talented desserts filled our home with sweetness and joy.

It is also offered in loving memory of our beautiful Oma, whose recipes and generous spirit live on in every page.

May the warmth of their kitchens continue to bring people together around the table.

Cook with us
